Briarpatch Coop
Taylor Schultz
BriarPatch is a food co-op in Nevada County, California, founded in 1976 by locals who wanted access to wholesome food and good community. Nearly fifty years later it's a community institution. 100% certified organic produce, bulk goods to cut waste, and a real emphasis on local and minimally processed.
They had a strong foundation, including a great existing illustration style, but it needed to come alive online. I built out the full website wireframe system, desktop and mobile, and reinterpreted their brand identity for the web, taking those foundational illustrations and giving them room to breathe, then systematizing the whole thing underneath: a proper color system, a clear typographic hierarchy, and consistent structure across the site.
The goal was to modernize without losing what made BriarPatch BriarPatch. Co-ops live on feeling like a genuine community, not a slick corporate grocery chain, so the work leaned into their existing character and warmth rather than flattening it into something generic.
